For Parents

WHAT AGE GROUP DOES SYAL SERVE?

Most of the activities will be for ages 13-17. Some activities will include all youth between the ages of 7-17. The Teen Driver Challenge is for licensed or permitted drivers ages 15-19.  Check the criteria on the registration forms, as well as the website, for your child.

ARE ONLY AT-RISK YOUTH INVITED TO PARTICIPATE?

No, the goal of SYAL is to prevent Lee County youth degradation, keeping them away from inherent boredom which can lead to adverse activities. SYAL also instills confidence in youth participation through supporting interaction with deputies and other adults. The youth also acquire a sense of responsibility and worth.

WHERE DO THE ACTIVITIES TAKE PLACE?

Activities are held at various locations throughout Lee County to include Lee County Parks and Recreation facilities such as Veterans Park in Lehigh Acres and Schandler Hall in Tice, as well as the Fort Myers YMCA and Bonita Springs YMCA.

WILL THE YOUTH HAVE FREE REIGN AT THE TEEN NIGHT EVENTS?

No, parents are expected to drop their youth off at the door. At 9:30, the dance starts to wind down and the youth are released only to a parent or guardian who should arrive by 9:45 pm. No youth will be allowed to leave the dance on their own, so parents are asked to please pick up your children by the desired time.

Please note: cell phones find limited connection within the building and calls have been known to be missed while inside. For the safety and security of your youth, a parent or guardian must sign the youth up for a Lee County Parks and Recreation membership for a onetime fee of $10. All memberships must be obtained at the event facility. For more information please call 239-369-1521

HOW CAN I GET MY CHILD INVOLVED?
Parents can register their children on the website registration form. If no form is present, parents will have to register their children in person at the event site.  Call (239) 258-3279 on registration for the Teen Driver Challenge.
